Hyderabad, Apr 12 : Ending suspense and braving many controversies, Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik and Indian tennis star Sania Mirza entered into a wedlock here this afternoon.

Sania's uncles Muhammad Shafi Osman and Mirza Fayaz Baig subscribed the Nikahnama as the witnesses. ''Ijab and qabool (offer and acceptance) was complete as per the Islamic law. As much as Rs 61 lakh in cash was presented as +Mehr+ to the bride''.
''The Nikah has been completed. Please pray for the couple,'' Sania's representative Rucha Naik told reporters waiting outside the hotel.
The all important event in the life of celebrated sportspersons of South Asia, was kept a top secret till the last minute. The wedding originally was scheduled for April 15 but advanced to today by both the families.
After the 'nikah', the guests offered 'zuhar namaz'. It was followed by lunch, wherein the couple ate traditional delicacies, including the famous Hyderabadi biryani and desserts like qubani ka meetha.
The marriage was held amid tight security and media was not allowed inside.
The high-profile wedlock was embroiled in controversies ever since it was proclaimed on March 29.
Ayesha, a Hyderabadi girl, had sent a legal notice to Shoiab to divorce her before marrying Sania. Shoaib had married her over telephone in 2002, but accused her of duping him by sending pictures of another woman and emotionally forcing him into the marriage.
Shoaib's passport is still with the police. His passport was taken by the police after Ayesha complained to police against Shoaib for alleged cheating, criminal intimidation and matimonial harassment.
The controversy over their marriage was settled at the intervention of community elders with Shoaib giving her divorce.
